S. J.S. Rai Trust Sponsored Building of Mata Sahib Kaur Academy

Mata Sahib Kaur Academy, V. Dabri, Anandpur Sahib, Dist. Ropar affiliated to P.S.E.B., Mohali imparted education upto 10th standard in a rural setting, till 2010. Its results with generally 100% pass percentage ensue from extra-ordinary commitment and personal motivation of the Principal, Mrs. Surjit Kaur and her teaching staff. The Academy had established a sprawling and an esthetically land-scaped campus, financed largely by personal funds of the Principal and her family. The Academy administration was eager to have the Academy upgraded to the Higher Secondary level. The guidelines of PSEB for this upgrade required availability of three separate well-equipped laboratories for Biology, Chemistry and Physics, each of minimally 400 sq ft dimension. The Principal of the Academy, accompanied by her husband S. Pritpal Singh visited S. Jaswant Singh Rai Mem Trust, Jalandhar on March 14, 2010 and made a plea for Trust sponsorship of this proposed project. The Academy received no financial support from Govt and/or private sources. It had, nevertheless, established a very good working relationship with the parents of their wards in particular as well as with the surrounding community in general. The same applied to the local media including some of the leading newspapers of the State. Notable success stories of the laurels that the students of the Academy, often find extensive news-paper attention. Unquestionably, the academy had been playing a stellar role in molding young minds in a rural setting through dedicated attention to imparting not only formal education in humanities, science and technology but also through personal examples of their own life-styles of simplicity, honesty and devotion to commendable work ethics.

In view of the Academy’s demonstrated success in establishing a well conceived infrastructure and excellent Board results, the Trust resolved to accept and undertake the construction of the following major facilities during 1910-17 at a cost of Rs. 16,70000/-(INR 16.70 lakhs)during 2010-17:

    1. Jaswant Singh Rai Science Block comprising of three separate Science Laboratories for Biology, Chemistry and Physics, each of minimally 1600 sq ft to fulfil the mandatory PSEB requirement for the upgrade at the Academy Campus, in the memory of my late father. The project was initiated in Aril 2010, completed and equipped with the needed general and specialized facilities in March 2011 including infrastructure, equipment and Library resources at a total cost of approximately seven lac rupees. The Academy administration, thereby applied for and following a site visitation, the Punjab State Education Board approved the upgrading of the former High School to Higher Secondary School Status. It is a matter of great satisfaction for the Trust that the Academy has been running 10+1 and 10+2 classes (in addition to high school classes) since 2011, with notable success
    1. Construction of a Classroom for teaching three science subjects measuring 24 x 22 ft was completed during FY 2012-13 at a cost of three lacs.
    1. Mata Tej Kaur Rai Memorial Assembly Hall: Following several ongoing discussions between the Trust and the Principal of the Academy, the lack of a relatively large Assembly Hall where important events involving the entire student body, the faculty and staff may be held had been acutely felt and mutually highlighted. This lead to the signing of an Mou to construct a relatively large room measuring 50 ft x 40 ft at a total estimated cost of Rs. 6,70,000.00 during the FY 2014-17. The construction got underway in March 2015 and is nearing completion.
